Mountain Biking
When you think of mountain biking in Colorado, locations such as Durango, Fruita, Crested Butte come to mind, but what about Ouray???
The Ouray area offers a well-rounded, off-road experience for cyclists. Cyclists of all levels can spend several days in Ouray during their travels through the mountains of Colorado and access numerous back roads and trails that wind above and around Ouray, as well as access unlimited riding throughout the San Juan Mountains.
We have a nice single track right on the edge of town in Ridgway. Ride from Ridgway on the bike path (North) and cross Hwy 550 to CR 10, it is just 1/4 mile up CR10. Here is a link to the map http://ridgwaytrails.com/trails/. We also have the Dallas trail above town at an elevation of 8,000 to 10,000 feet. Great high country ridding when it's hot town. Peak to Peak Bicycles run a shuttle for the East end of the trail that start's on the Ridgway side and you ride over to Ouray and then back around to town. It's a great ride, good single track and a fair amount of climbing. The West end of the Dallas trail from Blue Lakes trail head to Box Factory is also a great option as an out and back ride. Map's are available at Peak to Peak for this trail once you arrive. Give them a call/email if you have any other question's! 970-626-3177
All of the rides in Ouray County will allow you to experience the beauty that the area has to offer. No matter if you're hammering on the single track of Portland Trail, grinding away on Imogene Pass, or taking your time on the easier River Road, there is something for everyone.
If you are enjoying a family trip with children, plan an easy ride along the river just north of town and easily accessible from the city limits. Ouray is a bike-friendly town; a bike is always a good way to visit many of the attractions Ouray has to offer.
Cyclists of all levels can spend several days in Ouray pedaling through the San Juan Mountains, accessing numerous back roads and trails that wind above and around Ouray, as well as access unlimited riding through the area..
Remember to prepare for frequently changing high-altitude weather. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sunscreen to keep you well hydrated and riding strong
