Chief Ouray Gun Club

Celebrating 50 years of sportsmanship and safety, the club provides archery, rifle, pistol & shotgun ranges and organizes competitions & instruction.

The Chief Ouray Gun Club is comprised of ordinary Ouray County citizens, just like you. The Club itself is a member of the NRA and has been since its inception in 1955.

Chief Ouray Gun Club Range Rules

 

  1. All range users and shooters are personally responsible for range safety and safe shooting.
  2. All shooters are responsible to immediately correct any unsafe conditions.
  3. If you observe any unsafe Facility condition, report it immediately to a Rangemaster.
  4. Shooters and observers MUST wear ear and eye protection.
  5. Firearms must be carried with the muzzle up, and actions open.
  6. Muzzles must always be pointed down range.
  7. Firearms will be kept unloaded until on the firing line.
  8. Firing is permitted when all persons are behind the firing line and safe conditions exist.
  9. Firearms are not to be handled during "range safe" periods, or when people are in front of the firing line.
  10. All shooting is to be into backstops only.
  11. No shooting at unauthorized targets (cans, bottles, boxes, etc.).
  12. No shooting at target frames.
  13. All shooting will be in authorized areas.
  14. Deposit all trash in containers.  Clean up after yourself.
  15. Respect others and their equipment.
  16. Alcohol and drugs are prohibited on all ranges.
  17. Persons who have been consuming alcohol or are under the influence of drugs are prohibited from shooting.
  18. Please follow these rules while using the range. Violations will be enforced. Violators may be asked to leave the Facility, are subject to criminal and/or civil sanctions, and may have their membership privileges revoked.
  19. If there is more than one shooter, one person must assume the role of Range Safety Officer.
  20. Pets and children under the age of 18 must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian.
