(Be aware that first-timers take priority over anyone who has taken the class before, but there are often openings for repeaters)

The Polar Express, Weehawken Dance
Friday, December 19, 6-8 PM
Chris Van Allsburg’s “The Polar Express” tells the story of Christmas Eve when a boy is awakened by a steam train that pulls up in front of his house and takes him and other children to the North Pole. Young dancers from Cedaredge to Ouray will bring the story to the stage as a ballet with Weehawken Dance. Tickets are available in Ouray at Mouse’s Chocolates, in Ridgway at Cimarron Coffee and Books and the Weehawken Office, in Montrose at Tiffany, Etc. and online at www.weehawkenarts.org starting mid-November. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $8 for children under 12 and $10 for Seniors (65+) at the Saturday Matinee. Get your last minute holiday shopping done and complete a fun Ouray scavenger hunt for your chance at a 10-punch pool pass from the Ouray Hot Springs pool! Pick up your scavenger hunt form at the pool starting at noon, soak with Santa for a few hours, shop and search Ouray for holiday treasures, and wrap up the day with drinks at Cavallo’s at 5 PM, and dinner in town.

Celebrate the 1st Alpine Mentors’ Graduation and climb with mentors like Vince Anderson, Steve House, Kitty Calhoun, Dawn Glanc, Andres Marin, Jack Tackle, Ralph Tingey, Jim Donini, Buster Jesik, Colin Simon, Steve Van Sickle and many more. ...Show up at 8 AM at Backstreet Bistro, bring your climbing gear & get after it. The climbing is free and the mentors volunteer their time. Following some fun in the park, meet up at the Ouray Community Center at 7 PM where Alpine Mentors participants Buster, Coling & Steven will share a slideshow of what they experienced over the last two years while traveling the word and alpinizing. $5 Admission, free beer from the Ouray Brewery.

In collaboration with the Crested Butte Film Festival, the Sherbino Theater presents a monthly film series featuring a powerful line up of diverse and inspiring films including audience favorites and new independent cinematic masterpieces. Sit back in the unique Black Box Theater and enjoy our projector and the largest screen in Ouray County! Doors open at 7:00 and shows starts at 7:30 pm. Admission to each film is $7. Popcorn and a full bar will be available each film night. Philip Seymour Hoffman's last film based on master spy novelist John Le Carre's bestselling novel.

Snow Games
Monday, December 29 – Wednesday, December 31, Ouray
Enjoy three days of whimsical fun in the snow in and around Ouray. Events include an Ugly Sweater & Pull Up Contest on Monday, December 29, at 3 PM in the Ouray Ice Park, a Cross Country Crawl at Noon on Tuesday, December 30 at the Ironton Nordic Ski Area, and an always popular BroomBall match on Wednesday, December 31 at the Ouray Rotary Park Ice Rink.

New Year's Eve Meals & Parties
Most restaurants open regular hours. Special New Year’s Eve dinners at the Beaumont, Cavallo’s, Bon Ton & Outlaw (RSVPs required). Ring in the New Year with parties at O’Brien’s Pub, the Ouray Elks Lodge and on Main Street, where fireworks boom above the canyon walls at midnight. On New Year’s Day, enjoy a special brunch at Cavallo’s and dinner at the Outlaw.

Kids’ Climbing College
Saturday, January 3
Celebrate ice season and get let your kids experience the our favorite local winter sport (you’ll get your chance at the 20th annual Ouray Ice Fest next week). Kids ages 7-17 get a free opportunity to try the exciting sport of ice climbing. The Kids’ Wall is a specially developed 40 ft high, 140 foot wide slab of ice located on top of the ice park with easy walking access. It features a dozen different routes with various levels of difficulty for all the kids. The Kids’ Climbing College is free, first-come-first-serve. San Juan Mountain Guides will provide harnesses, helmets, boots, crampons, and ice tools. Participants should bring: an adult to sign paperwork, warm clothes, gloves, and warm hat (ski clothes work well for climbing). Participant’s families should park in the designated Ice Park Parking areas and walk up to the Kids Wall.

20th Annual Ouray Ice Festival – Thursday, January 8 – Sunday, January 11, Ouray Ice Park & Ouray Locations
The Biggest Ice Festival in North America returns to Ouray to celebrate its 20th anniversary! For the past nineteen years the Ouray Ice Festival has been the world’s premier ice climbing event. This annual gathering is attended by ice climbers from around the world, as well as industry sponsors, inspiring speakers, and the world’s top exhibition climbers. Festival events are held in and around the Ouray Ice Park, located in the Uncompahgre Gorge in Ouray, Colorado, as well as various other venues around town. The event is staffed by the Park’s board of directors, its professional staff, and a cadre of over 200 dedicated volunteers. The festival is the primary fundraiser for Park maintenance and operations. The industry leaders that sponsor the festival not only support the Park itself, but also gain access to a passionate audience of over 3,000 outdoor enthusiasts.
