On the Snow
Unparalleled Backcountry Skiing, Snowshoeing and Snowmobiling in the San Juans
Ouray is the place to be in the wintertime, whether you seek adventure, comfort, relaxation or all of the above. Come winter, Ouray is wrapped in a blanket of crisp, white snow and offers plenty of activities and events to warm the body, heart and soul. Winter is the perfect season for uncrowded back-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Before you venture into the backcountry on your own, you should familiarize yourself with avalanche safety; better yet, go out with one of our professional guides.

You can still enjoy the small-town hospitality of Ouray and access world-class skiing at nearby resorts and ski areas in Telluride, Silverton and Durango. For a milder ride, Ouray’s own Lee’s Ski Hill offers a free tow rope and some fun turns right in town and a day with the kids on our local sledding hills, complete with bonfires and s’mores, is sure to get you giddy and giggling.
Nothing tops off a winter day in Ouray like a soak in our sulfur-free hot springs, some shopping along Main Street, a warm meal and drink at one of our cozy restaurants and a soft bed to fall into. Refer to our local business listings for all of your winter hospitality and outfitting needs.
