Old-Fashioned Fourth of July in Ouray

Celebrate Over A Century of Traditions

Whether you are joining us in Ouray to celebrate Independence Day, or you want to plan a trip for future celebrations, we want to share the complete list of fun and festivities for this year’s 4th of July. Visitors and locals of all ages cherish memories of this grand observance of the national holiday. Many of these activities have been a tradition since the early 1900s, and we expect they will be around for a long, long time into the future.

Isn’t it time to start a Ouray tradition of your own?

Ouray Volunteer Fire Department Water Fights, 1:00 PM, Main St. & 6th Avenue

The annual showstopping event. Watch as teams of two battle it out with full pressure fire hoses of freezing water. Watch out for the water and stray hoses! Fun fact - the water for the fights comes from the overflow of our municipal water tanks. This overflow is what our local spring produces over and above local use and it usually overflows into the Uncompahgre River. So while it may look like a lot of water flowing down the street, it goes right into the storm sewer and right back into our local waterways.
