Mountain Pass Rides
Pedal from Peak to Peak for Rewarding Views
Flying down a pass on skinny tires is exhilarating, but the high pass roads around Ouray can be a little intimidating to a novice road biker. The road ride over Red Mountain Pass is epic for a multitude of reasons (stunning views, tight switchbacks, oxygen deprivation, and little to no shoulder along steep drop-offs) and will pose a challenge to even the most seasoned rider. The Dallas Divide ride along HWY 62 between Ridgway and Placerville offers great climbs and a slightly wider shoulder with stunning views of the Sneffels Range.
Most riders, though, are looking for a bit less adrenaline but equally stunning views. Ouray offers some great alternatives to the high paved passes including the scenic route along County Roads 14 and 23 between Ridgway and Ouray, and the paved bike paths along the Uncompahgre River into Ridgway State Park.
